Obituary

Paul Moran Geist Sr., Age 83, of East Pointe, passed away at his residence on February 24th, 2019.

Born on October 7th, 1935 in Grosse Pointe Farms, he was the son of the late Hazel and Phillip Geist.

Paul attended, and graduated High School from St. Paul in 1952. He served his country in the Korean War from 1955 -1957 as a Specialist Third Class in the United States Army, and continued his Service in the Reserves through 1963. Paul returned to civilian life with an honorary discharge and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He married the love of his life - Mary Lou Louwers, and they have been together ever since and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on October 24th, 2019.

Paul worked as a Foreman / Landscaper for Greater Detroit Landscaping, retired as a Security Guard from Chrysler, and decided to continue working part-time at Allemon’s Garden Center. Throughout his life he has always made a positive impression in his unmatched catering of people, both employees and customers alike, whether it was selling Christmas Trees, plowing the neighbor’s driveways, or just sharing a story or a beer with friends.

Paul was always a strong believer in God and shared his faith with and in the congregations of St. Paul’s, St. Peter's, St. Clare, and St. Joan of Arc Catholic churches.

Paul is survived by his six children: Thomas Edward Geist (Debbie), Jeanne Marie Harms (Kirk), Daniel Robert Geist (Kim), Margaret Mary / Margie Threm (Rick), Lorraine Moran / Lorrie Haiar (Brad), and Paul Moran Geist Jr., (Marissa). Paul & Mary Lou also had seven foster children, and have nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Paul is survived by his younger sister Christine Kreuter (Norb), who was his biggest fan to the very end and whom he dearly loved. He was predeceased and now joining his older brothers Tom and Louie in heaven.

Paul will always be remembered for his dedicated work ethic, his relentless support of his family, and his overall determination to giving his children the chance to succeed. He loved being involved in, and following his children’s (and Grandchildren's) activities and sports. He absolutely loved gardening, fishing, and relaxing at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula, " The Geist Getaway ", with his friends and family.

Funeral Visitation for Paul will be held on Thursday February 28, 2019 between the hours of 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Dear Mary Lou, Tom, and all of the Geist family- I am sending you prayers and love as you journey through the next few days of Papa's transition to eternal life. He is one of the most gentle and beautiful souls this world will ever know. So grateful that we all have so many memories of being with him. I remember all the special times we all had as Evan and Jenna were growing up. I especially remember and enjoyed the time when all the family came to Colorado to vacation and spend time together. Grandmother Louwers made this possible as it was her generous gift to us all and it was a memorable time. Papa cooked nearly every meal for the crew as each one came back from their Colorado adventure each day. We all had a great time in the kitchen with him laughing and cooking together. I really enjoyed that special time together. We also enjoyed every visit with him at the cabin. We had many sunny, beautiful days with him out on the boat or sharing a wonderful barbecue that he prepared. He was so loving to all his family and we are all so fortunate to have had those times with him. I know that Evan and Jenna will be forever grateful to have had such a blessed relationship with him. In honor of Papa, I decided to plant a tree for him. I thought this would be a special tribute since I know how much he loved planting and tending to the beautiful landscapes he created. He helped to make our homes more beautiful over the years so I hope this will honor him and help each of us remember how he made the earth a more beautiful place. Sent with much love and prayer from Pamela, Evan and Jenna.
