Obituary for Grace Jones (Marinelli)

Print
Grace (Marinelli) Jones, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at The Rivers in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. From her birth in Detroit on September 8, 1927, to Giacomo (Jack) and Anna (Mele) Marinelli, to her death on Tuesday, Grace lived a life full of laughter and love and joy in her family and friends. After graduation from Redford High School in 1945, Grace went to work for the Ford Motor Company as an executive secretary. She met her husband, Russell Calvin Jones (d. 1986) while skiing (or apres-skiing, depending upon who was telling the story) in northern Michigan with a group of friends who later became the Flyvende Øerner Ski Club, with whom Grace, Cal and their family spent many happy days on the slopes and enjoying summer outings at various lake cottages. Together they had four children, with whom they shared their love of skiing and northern Michigan. Grace was a joyful spirit, always ready to share a song, a laugh (even at her own expense), a bottle of wine in the back of a van (Italy 1995), her endless supply of ice cream, or a funny story from her childhood. She loved to cook – and her family loved her cooking.

Enjoying their many memories of Mom/Grandma Grace are her children and grandchildren: Susan (Randy, and grandchildren Dana and Ryan), John Paul (Angela, and grandsons David and Spencer), Julie (Mike, and grandchildren Michael (Jenna), Rachel, Noah and Emma), and Tom (grandchildren Cassidy, Molly and Dylan). Grace is also survived by her brother Angelo and sisters Dorothy and Mary Ann, as well as many dear sisters- and brothers-in-law, her first great-grandchild (Whitleigh), nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Yolanda, and her brothers John, Peter, George and Justin.

The family will greet friends and relatives at the Gathering Space at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms, at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 at St. Paul. Immediately after the mass, we invite all to join Grace’s family at the St. Paul Columbarium, where her remains will be inurned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Grace’s name to the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph, 1820 Mount Elliott St., Detroit, MI 48207 (www.thecapuchins.org/donate) to assist with their ministry to the poor and disenfranchised of Detroit, or to the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Michigan Chapter, 25200 Telegraph Rd., Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48033 (https://www.alz.org/gmc/donate), to support its programs and services for those suffering from dementia.
